This works the arithmetic a trust claim actually uses. It is not a prediction and it is not an offer. Every number in it is published: the scheduled value each trust lists for mesothelioma, and the payment percentage that trust is currently applying.
The calculation
Every 524(g) asbestos trust works the same way:
scheduled value × current payment percentage = what that trust pays on that claim
The scheduled value is what the trust lists for a disease. The payment percentage is the fraction of it the trust is currently paying, set so the trust can still pay claimants who file years from now. Both are published by the trust. Neither is negotiable at the counter.
Worked, per trust
Each row multiplies that trust’s published mesothelioma scheduled value by its current published percentage. The right-hand column is the product of those two published numbers, nothing else.

✓ verified marks a percentage we re-read from the trust’s own website on 2026-09-25. (unconfirmed) marks one taken from a notice on file that we could not re-read, so treat those rows as indicative. The tracker sets out where each figure came from.
Why the spread matters more than any single row
On these published figures the range across trusts runs from $7,525 to $90,000 per trust.
A high scheduled value does not mean a high payment. Owens Corning Fibreboard Asbestos Trust lists $215,000 for mesothelioma and pays 3.5% of it, producing $7,525. WRG Asbestos PI Trust lists $180,000 and pays 30.1%, producing $54,180. The trust with the larger headline value pays the smaller amount, so reading scheduled values alone gets the ranking backwards.
Claims are usually against several trusts, not one
A veteran exposed aboard ship was rarely exposed to one company’s product. Boilers, pipe lagging, gaskets and refractory came from different manufacturers, and each is a separate trust with its own claim, its own evidence requirements and its own percentage. Which trusts a service history reaches is the question that decides the total, and it is answered from rate, ship, years and job, not from a diagnosis.
The trusts most often reached by Navy service are listed in relevance order in the table above. The trust overview explains what each one covered.
What this calculation does not tell you
- It is not what you will receive. A trust evaluates each claim individually. Documentation strength, exposure evidence and the review track all change the outcome.
- The percentage moves. Trusts revise these, sometimes more than once a year, and the figure that applies is the one in force when a claim is paid, not when it is filed. Current figures and their dates are on the payment percentage tracker.
- The review track changes the base. The same percentage applied to a scheduled value under Expedited Review and to a gross settlement value under Individual Review are different calculations.
- Scheduled values here are historical typical figures for mesothelioma. Other diseases carry different, usually much lower, values.
- It ignores offsets. Trust recoveries can interact with a civil claim depending on jurisdiction.
- It is not legal advice, and it does not tell you whether you qualify against any of these trusts.
VA benefits are separate money
A trust claim is not a VA claim and one does not reduce the other. Veterans commonly pursue both, and surviving spouses may have a DIC claim alongside trust claims. We cover how they run in parallel in filing a VA claim and a trust claim together, and the deadlines that apply to each in claim deadlines.
